PE Pipe Production Line and Factory Setup

A polyethylene (PE) pipe production line is a complete industrial system designed to extrude PE100, PE80 or PE63 granules into pressure and non-pressure pipes under controlled process conditions. The line produces pipes for water supply, gas distribution, irrigation and industrial applications.

From an industrial perspective, PE pipe manufacturing is important because it combines precise extrusion, vacuum calibration, controlled cooling and accurate cutting to achieve consistent diameter, wall thickness and long-term hydrostatic strength. The process relies on a defined sequence of unit operations that must be correctly engineered, sized and integrated.

Primary materials typically include PE100, PE80 or PE63 granules and colour masterbatch. The core machinery set consists of extruders, die heads, vacuum calibration tanks, cooling tanks, haul-offs, automatic saws and coilers or stackers.

The Industrial Department supports investors who want to establish a new PE pipe factory as well as existing plant owners who need repair, overhaul, capacity expansion or automation of their current lines. Projects can start from an empty site or from an operating facility that requires technical upgrading.

Whether the goal is a green-field turnkey PE pipe plant in Iraq, Kurdistan Region, Afghanistan or other regional markets, or the modernization of an existing line in Iran, engineering, machinery supply or manufacturing, installation, commissioning and ongoing technical support can be provided under defined contractual scopes.

Production Line Overview

The PE pipe line is engineered as an integrated process system covering material preparation, extrusion, vacuum calibration, cooling, haul-off, cutting and coiling or stacking. Design capacity is determined during the engineering phase and can typically range from 150 to 1000 kg per hour depending on diameter and wall thickness.

Typical product specifications include diameters 16–630 mm. Main machinery groups include extruders, die heads, vacuum calibration tanks, cooling tanks, haul-offs, automatic saws and coilers or stackers.

Manpower requirements depend on the degree of automation. Quality control covers diameter, wall thickness, ovality and hydrostatic performance.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Material Preparation – PE granules and masterbatch are prepared.
  2. Extrusion – Material is melted at 180–220 °C and formed into pipe.
  3. Vacuum Calibration – Outer diameter is set under vacuum.
  4. Cooling – Pipe is cooled in water tanks.
  5. Haul-off and Cutting – Pipe is pulled and cut to length.
  6. Collection – Pipes are coiled or stacked.

Machinery & Equipment

  • Extruder – Melts and pumps the PE compound. Position: first stage. Importance: foundation of pipe quality. Quality impact: incomplete melting causes defects. Maintenance: screws, barrels and heaters. Sahi Rasa support covers design, installation, repair and spare parts.
  • Die Head and Vacuum Calibration Tank – Forms and sizes the pipe. Position: after extruder. Importance: dimensional accuracy. Quality impact: incorrect vacuum causes ovality. Maintenance: dies, vacuum system and seals.
  • Cooling Tank and Haul-off – Stabilizes and pulls the pipe. Position: mid-line. Importance: dimensional stability. Quality impact: uneven cooling affects diameter. Maintenance: water circulation, belts and drives.
  • Automatic Saw and Coiler/Stacker – Cuts and collects the pipe. Position: end of line. Importance: length accuracy. Quality impact: inaccurate cutting causes waste. Maintenance: blades, drives and controls.

Factory Layout & Building Requirements

Typical areas include raw-material storage, extrusion hall, calibration and cooling, cutting and collection, finished-pipe storage, quality control, utilities and staff facilities. Exact area is determined during engineering.

Utilities

  • Electricity: 380 V three-phase, 100–300 kW
