Tomato Paste Production Line and Factory Setup

A tomato paste production line is a complete industrial system designed to wash, sort, crush, preheat, concentrate and pack tomato paste under controlled hygienic and process conditions. The line produces concentrated tomato paste for retail and industrial use.

From an industrial perspective, tomato paste manufacturing is important because it combines efficient washing and sorting, controlled crushing and preheating, vacuum concentration at low temperature and reliable packaging to achieve consistent soluble solids, colour and flavour. The process relies on a defined sequence of unit operations that must be correctly engineered, sized and integrated.

Primary materials typically include fresh tomatoes, salt, citric acid and packaging materials. The core machinery set consists of washers (50–1500 t/day), sorting systems, crushers, preheaters (65–85 °C), batch or continuous evaporators, sterilizers and filling/seaming equipment.

The Industrial Department supports investors who want to establish a new tomato paste plant as well as existing operators who need repair, overhaul, capacity expansion or automation of their current lines. Projects can start from an empty site or from an operating facility that requires technical upgrading.

Whether the goal is a green-field turnkey tomato paste plant in Iraq, Kurdistan Region, Afghanistan or other regional markets, or the modernization of an existing line in Iran, engineering, machinery supply or manufacturing, installation, commissioning and ongoing technical support can be provided under defined contractual scopes.

Production Line Overview

The tomato paste line is engineered as an integrated process system covering reception, washing, sorting, crushing, preheating, refining, concentration, sterilization and packaging. Design capacity is determined during the engineering phase and can range from small batch units to continuous systems above 150 tonnes per day of raw tomato.

Main machinery groups include washers, sorters, crushers, preheaters, refiners, evaporators (batch or continuous), sterilizers and fillers. Supporting infrastructure covers electrical power, steam and process water.

Manpower requirements depend on the degree of automation. Quality control covers Brix, colour, consistency and package integrity.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Reception and Washing – Tomatoes are received and washed.
  2. Sorting – Defective tomatoes are removed.
  3. Crushing and Preheating – Tomatoes are crushed and preheated at 65–85 °C.
  4. Refining – Seeds and skins are separated.
  5. Concentration – Juice is concentrated under vacuum at low temperature (around 70 °C).
  6. Sterilization and Packaging – Paste is sterilized and filled.

Machinery & Equipment

  • Washer and Sorter – Cleans and grades tomatoes. Position: first stage. Importance: hygiene and yield. Quality impact: residual dirt or defective fruit affects final quality. Maintenance: screens, conveyors and water systems. Sahi Rasa support covers design, installation, repair and spare parts.
  • Crusher and Preheater – Breaks fruit and heats to 65–85 °C. Position: after sorting. Importance: enzyme inactivation and juice release. Quality impact: incorrect temperature affects colour. Maintenance: blades and heating systems.
  • Evaporator – Concentrates under vacuum. Position: core stage. Importance: determines Brix and capacity. Quality impact: high temperature or long residence time damages colour and flavour. Maintenance: vacuum systems, heat exchangers and controls.
  • Sterilizer and Filler/Seamer – Ensures commercial sterility and packages the product. Position: end of line. Importance: shelf life and presentation. Quality impact: incomplete sterilization or weak seals cause spoilage. Maintenance: heat exchangers, valves and seaming systems.

Factory Layout & Building Requirements

Typical areas include tomato reception, washing and sorting, crushing and refining, concentration, sterilization and packaging, quality control, utilities and staff facilities. Exact area is determined during engineering.
