Canned Tuna Production Line and Factory Setup
A canned tuna production line is a complete industrial system designed to process tuna into canned products under controlled hygienic and thermal process conditions. The line produces tuna in oil or brine in metal cans depending on the selected filling and sterilization equipment.
From an industrial perspective, canned tuna manufacturing is important because it combines careful fish preparation, pre-cooking, accurate filling, hermetic seaming and controlled sterilization to achieve commercial sterility, consistent quality and long shelf life. The process relies on a defined sequence of unit operations that must be correctly engineered, sized and integrated.
Primary materials typically include tuna, oil or brine, salt and metal cans. The core machinery set consists of preparation tables, fish cutters, pre-cooking kettles (100–120 °C), fillers, salt and oil dosers, exhausters, automatic seamers (4-head), autoclaves (120–125 °C), jet printers and shrink wrappers.
The Industrial Department supports investors who want to establish a new canned tuna plant as well as existing operators who need repair, overhaul, capacity expansion or automation of their current lines. Projects can start from an empty site or from an operating facility that requires technical upgrading.
Whether the goal is a green-field turnkey canned tuna plant in Iraq, Kurdistan Region, Afghanistan or other regional markets, or the modernization of an existing line in Iran, engineering, machinery supply or manufacturing, installation, commissioning and ongoing technical support can be provided under defined contractual scopes.
Production Line Overview
The canned tuna line is engineered as an integrated process system covering thawing, cutting and cleaning, pre-cooking, filling, seaming, sterilization and packaging. Design capacity is determined during the engineering phase and can typically range from 5000 to 72000 cans per day.
Main machinery groups include preparation equipment, pre-cookers, fillers, seamers, autoclaves and packaging machines. Supporting infrastructure covers electrical power, steam and process water.
Manpower requirements depend on the degree of automation. Quality control covers fill weight, vacuum, sterility and package integrity.

Manufacturing Process
- Thawing and Preparation – Frozen tuna is thawed, cut and cleaned.
- Pre-cooking – Fish is pre-cooked at 100–120 °C.
- Filling – Cans are filled with tuna, salt and oil.
- Exhausting and Seaming – Air is removed and cans are hermetically sealed.
- Sterilization – Cans are sterilized in autoclaves at 120–125 °C.
- Packaging – Finished cans are labelled, coded and packed.
Machinery & Equipment
- Preparation Equipment and Pre-cooker – Prepares and pre-cooks the fish. Position: first stages. Importance: yield and quality. Quality impact: incomplete cleaning or over-cooking reduces quality. Maintenance: knives, tables and heating systems. Sahi Rasa support covers design, installation, repair and spare parts.
- Filler and Seamer – Fills and seals cans (4-head automatic seamer). Position: core packaging stage. Importance: fill weight and hermetic seal. Quality impact: incomplete seal causes spoilage. Maintenance: seaming rolls, chucks and dosing systems.
- Autoclave – Sterilizes at 120–125 °C. Position: after seaming. Importance: commercial sterility and shelf life. Quality impact: incorrect temperature or time causes under- or over-processing. Maintenance: pressure vessels, valves and controls.
- Jet Printer and Shrink Wrapper – Codes and packs the cans. Position: end of line. Importance: traceability and presentation. Quality impact: missing codes affect compliance. Maintenance: print heads and wrapping systems.
