BOPP Film Production Line and Factory Setup

A BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) film production line is a complete industrial system designed to transform polypropylene granules into high-quality transparent or treated film under controlled process conditions. The line produces film used for packaging, lamination and labelling applications.

From an industrial perspective, BOPP film manufacturing is important because it combines precise extrusion, biaxial orientation, surface treatment and winding to achieve excellent mechanical, optical and barrier properties. The process relies on a defined sequence of unit operations that must be correctly engineered, sized and integrated.

Primary materials typically include polypropylene granules, masterbatch and processing aids. The core machinery set consists of extruders, biaxial stretching units, corona treaters, winders and slitters.

The Industrial Department supports investors who want to establish a new BOPP film plant as well as existing operators who need repair, overhaul, capacity expansion or automation of their current lines. Projects can start from an empty site or from an operating facility that requires technical upgrading.

Whether the goal is a green-field turnkey BOPP plant in Iraq, Kurdistan Region, Afghanistan or other regional markets, or the modernization of an existing line in Iran, engineering, machinery supply or manufacturing, installation, commissioning and ongoing technical support can be provided under defined contractual scopes.

Production Line Overview

The BOPP film line is engineered as an integrated process system covering extrusion, casting, biaxial orientation, corona treatment, winding and slitting. Design capacity is determined during the engineering phase and can typically range from 150 to 500 kg per hour depending on film width and thickness.

Typical product specifications include film width 500–2500 mm, thickness 15–50 microns and line speeds of 30–150 m/min. The overall process flow follows a defined sequence: melting of PP granules, extrusion and casting of the primary film, biaxial stretching, corona treatment, winding and optional slitting.

Main machinery groups include extruders, biaxial stretching (BOPP) units, corona treaters, winders and slitters. Supporting infrastructure covers electrical power, process water and compressed air.

Manpower requirements depend on the degree of automation. Quality control covers thickness uniformity, optical properties, mechanical strength and surface treatment level. Finished rolls are stored under controlled conditions before distribution.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Melting and Extrusion – PP granules and masterbatch are melted in the extruder at approximately 220–260 °C and cast into a primary film.
  2. Biaxial Orientation – The primary film is stretched in both machine and transverse directions to improve mechanical and optical properties.
  3. Corona Treatment – Surface energy is increased for better printability and adhesion.
  4. Winding and Slitting – Film is wound into master rolls and slit to customer widths.

Machinery & Equipment

  • Extruder – Melts and pumps the polymer. Position: first process stage. Importance: foundation of film quality. Quality impact: incomplete melting or contamination causes defects. Maintenance: screws, barrels and heaters. Sahi Rasa support covers design, installation, repair and spare parts.
  • Biaxial Stretching Unit (BOPP) – Orients the film in two directions. Position: core of the line. Importance: determines mechanical and optical properties. Quality impact: incorrect stretch ratios affect strength and clarity. Maintenance: clips, ovens and drive systems.
  • Corona Treater – Modifies surface energy. Position: after stretching. Importance: printability and adhesion. Quality impact: insufficient treatment causes ink or coating failure. Maintenance: electrodes and power supplies.
  • Winder and Slitter – Forms rolls and cuts to width. Position: end of line. Importance: final product format. Quality impact: uneven winding causes handling problems. Maintenance: tension controls and knives.

Factory Layout & Building Requirements

Typical areas include raw-material storage, extrusion and stretching hall, winding and slitting, finished-roll storage, quality control, utilities and staff facilities. Exact area is determined during engineering.
