Brake Pad Production Line and Factory Setup

A brake pad production line is a complete industrial system designed to mix friction materials, preform, hot-press, cure, grind and finish brake pads under controlled process conditions. The line produces automotive and industrial brake pads.

From an industrial perspective, brake pad manufacturing is important because it combines precise formulation of friction materials, controlled hot pressing and curing, accurate grinding and surface finishing to achieve consistent friction coefficient, wear resistance and noise performance. The process relies on a defined sequence of unit operations that must be correctly engineered, sized and integrated.

Primary materials typically include fibres, resins, fillers, lubricants, friction modifiers and steel back plates. The core machinery set consists of mixers, preform presses (50–200 t), hot presses (150–200 °C), curing ovens (200–300 °C), grinding machines, coating systems and friction testing equipment.

The Industrial Department supports investors who want to establish a new brake pad plant as well as existing operators who need repair, overhaul, capacity expansion or automation of their current lines. Projects can start from an empty site or from an operating facility that requires technical upgrading.

Whether the goal is a green-field turnkey brake pad plant in Iraq, Kurdistan Region, Afghanistan or other regional markets, or the modernization of an existing line in Iran, engineering, machinery supply or manufacturing, installation, commissioning and ongoing technical support can be provided under defined contractual scopes.

Production Line Overview

The brake pad line is engineered as an integrated process system covering material preparation, mixing, preforming, hot pressing, curing, grinding, coating and quality testing. Design capacity is determined during the engineering phase and can typically range from 1000 to 5000 pieces per day.

Main machinery groups include mixers, preform presses, hot presses, curing ovens, grinding machines, coating systems and test equipment. Supporting infrastructure covers electrical power, gas and process water.

Manpower requirements depend on the degree of automation. Quality control covers friction performance, dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Material Preparation and Mixing – Fibres, resins and fillers are weighed and mixed.
  2. Preforming – Mixture is preformed under 50–200 t pressure.
  3. Hot Pressing – Pads are formed and cured at 150–200 °C.
  4. Oven Curing – Final curing at 200–300 °C.
  5. Grinding and Coating – Surfaces are ground and protective coatings applied.
  6. Testing and Packaging – Friction performance is checked and products are packed.

Machinery & Equipment

  • Mixer – Blends friction materials. Position: first stage. Importance: uniformity of formulation. Quality impact: incomplete mixing causes performance variation. Maintenance: blades and seals. Sahi Rasa support covers design, installation, repair and spare parts.
  • Preform and Hot Press – Forms and consolidates the pad (50–200 t, 150–200 °C). Position: core stage. Importance: density and bond strength. Quality impact: incorrect pressure or temperature affects durability. Maintenance: hydraulic systems, moulds and heaters.
  • Curing Oven – Completes the cure (200–300 °C). Position: after hot pressing. Importance: final mechanical and thermal properties. Quality impact: under-curing reduces performance. Maintenance: heaters and temperature controls.
  • Grinding Machine, Coating System and Friction Tester – Finishes and validates the product. Position: end of line. Importance: dimensional accuracy and quality assurance. Quality impact: poor grinding or coating affects fit and corrosion resistance. Maintenance: abrasives, spray systems and test instruments.
